Adobe Does Ajax (Experience)

I find pretty regularly that developers tend to confuse Adobe and Flash. Adobe is a company. Flash is a technology. Flash is just one of the 70+ technologies that Adobe, the company, makes. JavaScript developers that ignore the rest of what Adobe has to offer because of its association with Flash, do themselves a great disservice. As a point in case, Adobe is sponsoring and presenting at the two most well known Ajax conferences this year.

Adobe, Zend and Ed Finkler

Last week Adobe and Zend made a couple of really great announcements. The first was official addition of AMF (remoting) to the Zend Framework via Zend AMF. If you’re an AMFPHP fan, you’ll be happy to hear that Wade Arnold is heavily involved in this project. The other announcement was the two companies working together to have Flex Builder run inside Zend Studio. We still have some QE work to do here, but this promises a seamless workflow for rich client developers.

Ignite Denver and a Cigar BOF at MAX?

Last week I got to attend and present at the first annual Ignite Denver. The geek crowd made a strong showing, nearing almost one-hundred (100) at Fado’s Irish Pub. My most memorable moments involve the Irish band who was clueless as to who in their right mind would get so excited about a presentation. As John Wilker noted after the event, clearly they didn’t know the presentation topics included everything from “Ignite a Cigar” to “How to Swear in French.”
